30” x 40” (33” x 43” with frame)
This painting actually sits on the corpse of another painting. Under 3 coats of varnish, an isolation layer, 2 coats of paint, and 3 layers of gesso, is a painting of a cat swimming in a lily pond. Avo-cat-o cat was an idea that felt risky to me, and sometimes painting on a fresh canvas causes me to be too precious with the piece, so I decided to paint over art that I outgrew. If you look closely, you can see remnants of the other paintings brushstrokes.
What does this painting make you think of? Perhaps your morning routine or your favorite kitty?
